Google Wish List – Google Calendar

January 20, 2010

I’m a big Google fan, but who isn’t? As unbelievable as it may seem,  there are quite a few things Google hasn’t done yet that would make my Google experience more of a breeze. Here’s to the start of my Google Wish List….

Wish #1 -Google Calendar (Notifications)

Provide Send Weekly Agenda as an option. This way my inbox will not be cluttered, I wont be startled out of my sleep every morning between the hours of 4 and 5 am(from the daily agenda), and I can be bettered prepared for the week in general.

Thanks.

Why Own a Blackberry?

December 8, 2009

I will be the first to admit I hated blackberry phones. Yes, literally hated them. Too many buttons, too bulky, too much in general. Well…now I own a Blackberry Curve and I believe it’s the best piece of handheld technology I’ve seen in a while. What can I say? Verizon had a sale;)  Here are few ways it’s helped me out.

Email. I have 3 email accounts (that I check regularly), it saves time when I can roll over in the morning grab my phone, push ONE button, and my inbox appears. Instead of hitting the snooze button, check your email, and if nothing requires your immediate attention, feel free sleep worry-free for the next 10-15 min.

Website. I don’t spend as much time as I should updating and maintaining my site. Now that I can access Wordpress from my Blackberry, I’m sure the next time I’m standing in line at the post office I’ll give it a gander.

User-friendly. When I purchase a gadget, phone or any technical device, I pay close attention to how easy it is to learn and operate. Will it take me four days to get the hang of it, or four weeks? Four weeks is a bit much, but the Blackberry has everything exactly where I need it. It offers numerous resources for the beginner, as well as the advanced.

Contacts. Bottom line, the sole benefit of a Blackberry phone is its ability to allow you to keep in touch with everyone, everywhere, at any time. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are a breeze with the Blackberry.

With my Blackberry in hand I seldom need to open my netbook. It once irked me to see Blackberry owners playing with their phones, looking at them, or even talking on them non-stop. Now I understand why.

Do you own a Blackberry? How has it helped make your life easier?

Tired of Preconceived Notions?

October 27, 2009

What is a preconceived notion?

Princeton defines a preconceived notion as an opinion formed beforehand without adequate evidence.

I’m sure we have all dealt with preconceived notions from friends and family on more than one occasion and quite frankly it can be irritating, annoying, and down right disrespectful. So I say to my friends and family and to the friends and families of others: BACK OFF!!! (“back” being the nicer four-letter-word)

Here’s a perfect example:

An older, more established college friend texted me at 8am and I didn’t respond until 12pm. My text was an apology explaining I had just woke up, etc, etc.  His response was, “I figured”. He assumed because of my age I had been asleep until that time. Not so. Little did he know I worked all night and didn’t get to sleep until 7am that morning. Not only was I working, but I was working hard!! I don’t want to vent too much, but the bottom line is: ASK and don’t assume:) We know what’s said of assumptions…

How about you? Tired of beng hassled? Tell me about it.

Should I Be Myself?

October 18, 2009

shouldibemyself

As artists and individuals we want to express ourselves freely, but as the potential employee we cannot resist submitting to conformity. Besides, it is 2009. The unique is favored and all-to-much praised. Here are the most important reasons why you should or shouldn’t be yourself.

Be you…

Only if it feels right. If it feels awkward, don’t do it. You’ll risk the chance of coming off as fake and much worst you’ll be out of your comfort zone. Being you comfortably shows you’re confident, secure, and worry-free. In return, your reader or potential employer gets to know you instead of…well…not you.  This establishes a heightened level of respect and trust, and healthier and more personal relationships.

Don’t be you…

If you’re going to overdo it. Otherwise you’ll come off as being headstrong or over-confident. It’s ok to be yourself, but be smart about it. We are fully aware of what’s appropriate and what isn’t. Being you doesn’t mean show lack of respect or etiquette.  Share your interests, not your sexuality.

Bottom line, there is a certain level of professionalism one should exemplify when speaking with a potential employer. Regardless of how you choose to come across to others, no one approach will be accepted by all. I vote for being yourself. It’s easier. Being someone else is hard work. What do you think?
